SeedNL Podcast: Episode 2 - Szonja Csörgő

SeedNL presents Episode 2 of this podcast miniseries in which we dive into how Plant Breeders' Rights and Farmers' Rights are frequently framed as contradicting ways for how seeds are accessed, developed, sold and used. These rights and corresponding policies have a significant impact on the seed sector, and therefore also on food and nutrition security around the world.

The podcast series facilitates dialogue with and between three experts who talk about their different perspectives on the discussion - and find collaborative ways forward.

Without return on investment, there wouldn’t be a possibility for breeders to actually continue creating, continue breeding new varieties for the users of the variety - farmers, consumers and society.
— Szonja Csörgő, Euroseeds

For a summary of our podcast host’s reflections on proposed ways forward, read this short paper. For those who are interested to immerse themselves into the intricacies of the subject, Abishkar Subedi, Senior advisor genetic resources and seed systems and Wageningen University, prepared a technical paper.
